Volunteer Opportunities
At John Knox Christian School, we believe that one of the key elements in community is working together. To that end, we run a “GIFTS” program – the acronym stands for “Getting Involved for the Students”. Each family is encouraged to give of their time and talents, and help out with the many volunteer opportunities available at John Knox.
Check the right column on the home page regularly for Volunteer Opportunities, look in the weekly LINK newsletter, or contact us for ways you can get involved!
- all volunteers must have a current police check - check with the school office to get your form
- all families are asked to complete the volunteer survey and gifts & skills inventory found in your August mailing (click here if you need an additional copy)
More Details....
- In recognition of the significance that volunteering brings to the school, one hour of volunteering is now valued at $25 per hour, with the total value of volunteering equalling $500 for a full time family.
- Families will be asked to indicate whether they will opt in or out of the GIFtS program when they receive their tuition invoice from the Finance committee.
- If they decide to opt out, $500 must be added to the invoice for a full time family; $375 if you have a child in SK only; $250 if you have a child in JK only.
- Families that opt in are required to complete and track their hours by the end of the school year. In June, invoices will be issued for any uncompleted hours.
- Parents will be expected to track their own volunteer time, through a master file which will be kept in the school office.
- Rather than signing in and out, parents will be asked to record the number of hours volunteered.
- They may also send an e-mail to Astrid or myself to add the hours to the master file.
- There will be a list of volunteering opportunities which result in “automatic qualification” for the total number of hours. Some examples are: Board Member, Event or TRIP Coordinator, regular Library Volunteer, Coach, Committee Chair.
Once the required number of hours has been reached, the tracking may stop, unless volunteers wish to continue for their own reasons. If you have any questions about the GIFTS program, please contact K. Piccolo at 905 451-3236 ext 29, or e-mail at kpiccolo@bramptonjkcs.org.
