General Information
John Knox Christian School was established in 1959, with a staff of three teachers and an enrolment of 120 students. Today, it has staff of 22 full and part-time teachers and assistants serving a student enrolment of over 300 from Junior Kindergarten to grade 8.
John Knox Christian School is based on the confession that the redemptive work of Jesus Christ is the foundation for all learning. Consequently, we aim to make the students aware of the realities of our society and help them identify ways in which this reality can be restored to its original intent. The task of the teachers is to enable the students to unwrap their God-given gifts, as best they can, to His glory and to the benefit of the entire community. Every component of Christian education, including the classroom and playground activities, teaching-learning strategies and the evaluation of student's work is directed from this perspective.
The school's motto is excellence in learning. Excellent education does not only focus on the development of the student's intellectual abilities. Instead, at JKCS, we strive to nurture the students spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. At an excellent school, students are accepted for who they are and are nudge onward in their journey. An excellent school is a place where everyone realizes their need for God and for each other; a place where students are affirmed and encouraged to develop their strengths to the best of their abilities a place where everyone has a profound respect for each other as we pursue God's plan for our lives.
The curriculum at John Knox Christian School follows the guidelines of the Ministry of Education. However, it is based on the recognition that our world belongs to God for us to enjoy, develop and maintain. In addition to the core curriculum subjects such as Literature and Language Arts, Science and Mathematics, Social Studies, History and Geography, French, Physical Education, Art and Music, Bible or Religious Studies is a required subject. Furthermore, we have a well-equipped, up to date computer lab with access to the Internet.
At John Knox Christian School, parents are involved in the education of their children through their participation in the school board or its committees, and/or helping in and outside of the classroom. From its very beginning, JKCS has worked with a parent council which oversees the staff, the curriculum and other educational programs, and has participated in the development of its many policies, such as admissions, transportation, and finance. Parents are also actively involved in a variety of fund-raising projects which help the school meet its financial obligations.
John Knox Christian School is a member of the Ontario Alliance of Christian Schools (OACS), a service organization serving approximately 80 sister schools. The OACS is a member of Christian Schools International (CSI), which is an international organization serving approximately 400 schools in Canada and the United States.
